Description: custom multi hole drilling unit can drill up to 36 holes at once 2" drill spacing 68" overal bed length uses a 6" 3 jaw chuck to hold part coolant chuck strokes in z axis approx 2" to do 72 holes in same plane table has a 6" upstroke into drills clamp system set up to do 1-2" dia pipe this was used to drill holes in pipe at mutiple planes ..it indexes and rotates pipe As far as I remember it is under power. I did say that the last time I turned it on it would not sequence through the drill/rotate cycle. There is a tenor drum timer (rotating drum with push pins that actuate switches) that is not indexing. I suspect the timer motor is defective. If I were going to use it, I would update it with a cheap (few hundred dollar) PLC. We would ask $4,995 for it and unhook it, move it and load it for another $500. There is a hydraulic motor, main drive motor and coolant motor. All of them are 575 3 phase. Swapping them to 480 would require a motor change. As far as I can tell, you can use any drill size that has a #1 Morse taper. I found #1 Morse drills from 3/16 to 15/32. The tool holders that we used go by the name of #1 Morse Taper Split Sleeve Drill and Reamer Drivers’. The split sleeve allows you to use up to a 3/8” straight shank. I cannot see the motor data plate for HP, RPM, Frame etc. t looks like 15-20 HP. There are 36 drilling positions spaced 2” apart. The chuck that holds the piece you are drilling not only rotates but goes in and out. This means the hole centers can be 1” or 2” apart longitudinally. Sometimes we would skip drilling positions to increase the center distance between holes. I will have to ask someone what the chuck degree stops are when rotating radially. Remember, we built this gang drill for a very specific purpose. |
